Veterinary staff confront five times more patient deaths than their human health counterparts. With the majority of pet patients being euthanized at the veterinary hospital itself at some point, both clinic care staff and pet owners require significant emotional support during the end of life process.
The Console: Pet Loss Support System consists of both clinic staff and pet owner support information. These materials have been edited by leading advocates of compassionate communication skills development, especially as they relate to pet loss. The system provides relevant information from both clinical and research experience as a pathway to further develop the clinic’s end-of-life protocol. Included in the program are unique client support materials to assist pet owners to grieve and to cope with the loss of their pets.
